3rd day in Rethymno

First we gathered in the computer lab and the students made shapes based on tesselletions of Escher with mathematical app Geogebra.  A student named Ainoa guided the rest of the students to make the constructions in Geogebra environment

Then all togheter  draw the shapes in blouses with different  colors

After constructions started the math walk in the city . Students explored main historic points in the Rethymno with a mathematical perspective using the  mathcitymap app through their mobile phones

In the evening we participated in an program at the museum of temporary art. Teachers and students discovered in a playful way how the visual arts meet the history and mathematics. They interacted with exhibits, experimented with materials, texture, expressed their feelings arising from the museum's paintings. They also made their artistic masterpieces

We also visited a tratitional lab which makes sweets like "backlava". We tasted greek  treats.

2nd day in Rethymno

First students and teachers from the three partner countries visited the Center for Plasma Physics & Laser. At the Physics and Plasma Center students, got acquainted with the traditional  Greek lyre and were informed  on modern techniques for studying harmonic frequencies and how sound is influenced by the geometry and materials of the musical instrument.

Then we visited Research center of Physics Education . Under the guidance of the  director  of the center Mr. Kostis Chalkiadakis and his team constructued a kind of camera obscure. The students designed optical devices used in painting and photography to help visualize the structured area of the geometry of natural objects, with material they find in their everyday life.

We also visited the well known springs with small waterfalls that used to run old watermills  .  We walked in an traditional village, we show a Roman cemetery and a greek temple and a  water museum.

Today has been a busy day.
First of all we had a meeting at school, in this meeting each school has made a presentation to the other countries.  Greek team has shown a lovely video with the best moments in Brasov. Students has shown their work with symmetry ( all this work is in twinspace and padlet https://padlet.com/labrinale_edu/jnw3b77ufa1h).
After the work  we went to the town hall and the major gave us a warm welcome to the city

Then we departed to  Arkadi  Monastery and to Eleutherna museum, both places are plenty of history and taught us a great idea about Crete.

Preparing for the second activity

Students have choosen historical elements of Rethymnos town and have envestigated the symmetry in them, studing  also the history and the culture of rethymno. Their results of their investigation are in the phase of being uploaded in the Twinspace. Also the volunteers students which not participate in mobilities  took a quickly view of eschers tessellation. When we meet toghether the students which take part in exchanges will make transnational constructions in more details

refreshing the erasmus corner +

Students  refresh with new material the erasmus+ corner of the project and  wait  the students from Romania and Spain to show it to them. The eramsus + corner will be seen by their parents which will come to welcome  the spanish and Romanian students

Preperation of the 2nd mobility

The math trail of our Rethymnos' town has been  published. The team of math city map wishes us to  engoy allthogheter the route

Get ready your mobile phones to discover Rethymno through a math trail

Wednesday 22 January 2020

The Romanian students continued their preparation for the second transnational activity. Light reflection and symmetry have been studied both theoretically and practically. Students discovered the elements of the obscure room and the golden ratio in their own bodies as well as in their colleagues’ bodies.

Maths and arts with Geogebra and tesellations

Spanish team has prepared some Geogebra files in order to work with them in Rethymno.
You can see below a gallery of images
We also have prepared some fractals
In twinspace there are a collection of links to geogebra.org in case of anyone can see how the constructions are.
